Over 20 houses in Jatkhedi, Bhopal face demolition for road construction; Congress demands permanent rehabilitation or threatens protest.

Key facts

More than 20 houses in Jatkhedi are being demolished. The administration has issued eviction notices to families. Some houses have already been demolished, but families have not been permanently rehabilitated. Families have lived in the 20 to 30-year-old settlement for decades. Congress leader Ravindra Sahu Jhumrawala said permanent rehabilitation must happen or a major agitation will be launched. He stated that snatching roofs from poor families with limited resources is condemnable and making children, women, and elderly homeless is shameful. Displacing poor people in the name of development cannot be accepted. Action is being taken to remove houses due to road construction. Congress officials Slum Cell President Anuj Nikesh Chauhan and District President Rohit Rajput visited the spot and registered a protest.
