A dispute between Manawar’s municipal council and revenue department over land allocation is delaying a state Geeta Bhawan facility for senior citizens.

Madhya Pradesh’s Geeta Bhawan project in Manawar, intended to provide senior citizens with space for religious study, libraries, entertainment and community interaction, is delayed by a land-allocation dispute between the municipal council and revenue department.

Guidelines require a central, accessible site near shops; the proposed design includes a 700-seat auditorium. The municipal council seeks the unused, deteriorating Old Tehsil Office site, measuring about 4,990 square metres, after tehsil operations moved to Indore Road. The revenue department has instead offered land near Ward No. 15 or the trenching ground, about two kilometres away, and may consider transferring the Tehsil land to the Housing Board.

Council president Ajay Patidar and senior citizens back the old Tehsil site for accessibility, revenue generation and development through additional shops and markets. Nearby shopkeepers support the proposal, saying it would sustain their livelihoods.
