Gaur Green Avenue in Ghaziabad saw two major fires within a month. The first fire occurred on April 29, damaging about five flats and affecting 13 in Tower D. A second fire broke out around May 28. The complex has 447 units across four towers of 13 floors each, with some low-rise units.

Since the April 29 fire, the complex implemented safety measures: awareness programmes, electrical equipment inspections, and installation of two coolers for each diesel generator to prevent overheating.

Residents have responded by purchasing house insurance and fire extinguishers. A four-litre extinguisher costs about Rs 850 and a two-litre one around Rs 650. A resident noted small extinguishers are futile against large fires and periodic checks of all electrical equipment are needed, particularly during heatwaves. Residents report anxiety and sleep disruption due to the incidents.

A fire at Gaur Green Avenue in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad on April 29 gutted eight flats and damaged several others between the 8th and 13th floors; no fatalities reported.

The inquiry committee formed by the district magistrate could not ascertain the fire's cause. The circuit breaker switch in the flat where the fire possibly started was found intact, ruling out a definitive cause such as short circuit, cylinder blast, or foul play.

The committee found that obstructions hampered fire tender movement during rescue operations: a wall constructed between the swimming pool and parking area, and fencing of the park boundary.

Recommendations: setback areas and driveways should be kept free for fire tender movement; fire safety equipment should be regularly maintained by trained personnel.

The 13-storey building is adjacent to NH-9 near UP-Gate border and houses 447 flats. The RWA said it has begun freeing up open areas and supported the committee by providing CCTV footage.

The inquiry committee included the chief fire officer, additional district magistrate, and an officer from the electrical safety department.

Gaur Green Avenue has 446 flats. GDA map layout approved in 2007; completion certificate issued 2009. GDA learned a large religious structure was constructed in the setback area. DM directed all RWAs to ensure fire-safety equipment, firefighting systems, and disaster management processes remain fully functional.
