Residents of Sardar Colony in Ekkaduthangal have urged the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to repair damaged roads and replace broken stormwater drain covers, alleging repeated complaints have gone unattended. Worn surfaces and uneven patches make travel difficult for motorists and pedestrians. Damaged, broken or sunken drain covers pose safety hazards, particularly for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians after dark. The drains have also contributed to water stagnation, waste accumulation and mosquito breeding, raising sanitation and health concerns. Residents submitted a complaint through GCC’s online grievance portal around six months ago. Jai Ganesh, a resident, alleged that no remedial action has been taken.
