Kochi Water Metro Drops Six Terminals and Adds Nettoor

Kochi’s Water Metro network will drop six proposed terminals and add Nettoor, a feeder for commuters heading to the Kakkanad-Infopark corridor.
Key facts
A Kerala government order dated September 28 approved changes to Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s Water Metro network. The 2021 Detailed Project Report planned 38 terminals on 15 routes; six deletions reduce the count to 32, and the new Nettoor terminal brings it to 33.
The dropped terminals are Aster, Amritha, Kothad, Thevara, Cheriyamthuruth and Mulavkad Panchayat. Reasons include navigational and operational constraints, unavailable land, proposed bridges and low patronage. Thevara’s removal raises concerns about direct connections from western islands, including Kumbalam and Edakochi, to mainland Ernakulam.
Nettoor is planned on the Edakochi-Kumbalam-Nettoor-Thykkudam-Vyttila corridor as a feeder for Kakkanad-Infopark commuters and to help ease NH-66 congestion. Land has been acquired; no CRZ clearance or additional state liability is required. Construction must remain within the approved allocation. KMRL must amend the DPR and says suburban expansion plans will not be affected.
Kochi Road Repairs Delayed as Bitumen Prices Rise 70%

A road near Erattakkulangara Kattungal Bhagavathy temple in Pachalam has doubled one commuter’s school-pickup journey to 20 minutes. Roads in Pachalam-Vaduthala, Pottakuzhi, Edakochi and Fort Kochi are also in poor condition. Pallikavu Road in Vaduthala remains difficult to use despite Corporation records stating it was repaired.
The Corporation has tasked Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) with surveying its assets; the survey has been underway for one month and delayed maintenance funding. Most interior roads are managed by the Corporation. MG Road and Edappally-Muvattupuzha Road are managed by the Public Works Department; Judges Avenue, Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road and Subhash Chandra Bose Road by the Greater Cochin Development Authority.
