Two labourers died earlier this month when a dilapidated overhead water tank collapsed behind Kotwali police station, prompting residents and local representatives to demand urgent safety audits of ageing and abandoned tanks. Residents report visible deterioration in Bahu Bazaar, Doranda, Dhurwa, Hindpiri and Hinoo. Rajesh Kumar of Kusai Colony in Doranda said people avoid passing near an old tank during storms and that large chunks of concrete have fallen from it.

Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) reclaimed nearly 17 acres of encroached land across the city over the past year. Its 10 listed sites total around 16.96 acres: 4.8 acres at Edalhatu, 2.8 acres at Bada Ghagra, 5 acres at Manitola, 1.2 acres at Gwala Toli in Doranda, 1 acre at Doranda Bazaar and 0.44 acres at a site whose name is cut off. RMC is demarcating plots and constructing boundary walls to prevent fresh encroachments. Reclaimed land may be used for vending zones, libraries, shelters, public facilities and waste-management infrastructure.

A Sunday shutdown for repairs to Ranchi’s Hatia rising pipeline disrupted water supply to more than three lakh people. The Drinking Water and Sanitation Department directed contractor Pathak Utility Private Limited to complete the repairs; executive engineer Sumit Kumar said supply would be restored after the work and normalised in phases from Monday, with timings varying by area.

Affected areas included Kokar, Bariatu, Piska More, District School, Harmu, Sirmatoli, Doranda, Hinoo, Booty More, Chutia, Station Road, Patel Chowk, Lowadih, Birsa Munda Bus Stand and Purulia Road. Residents reported household disruption and some bought jarred water. A Kokar hostel resident said supply had been inadequate for four days, with low pressure previously preventing its tank from filling. The hostel needs more than 5,000 litres daily.

Kusai Colony in Doranda, Ranchi, has 251 electricity department homes, of which about 100 are illegally occupied. Some former employees or their families have not vacated homes after transfers or deaths. The compound also has eight illegal cattle sheds, 18 shops and huts. Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited’s Ranchi Area Board has prepared a list of occupants and sent it to the general manager and headquarters. General Manager Manmohan Kumar said the department plans to remove illegal occupants, cattle sheds and shops, prioritise eligible employees for housing and recover fines. The eight listed cattle-shed operators are Ram Pravesh, Ramlal Yadav, Janki Rai, Virendra Kumar, Vikas Yadav, Sanjay Giri, Chunamani and Lattu Yadav. The homes are dilapidated after years without repairs; reports include roof collapses and leaks during rain, causing injuries. Occupants have made some repairs themselves.

Residents of Ranchi Municipal Corporation wards 48 and 49—Doranda and Hinoo—report traffic congestion, rising noise, underdeveloped inner lanes, water shortages and security concerns. Ward 49 has 19,129 residents and Ward 48 has 15,626. Commercial growth has accelerated along Saket Nagar Road, Airport Road and Hinoo Chowk in Ward 49, and Doranda Main Road, Rahmat Colony Masjid Road and Kusai Chowk in Ward 48. Residents say there are no proper pedestrian crossings or traffic personnel during peak hours. They called for regulated traffic, designated parking, pedestrian-safety measures near educational institutes, better inner-lane infrastructure and assured water supply.
