Uttarakhand Probes Sale of 20 Acres in Dehradun’s Dhaulas

Uttarakhand is investigating the sale and plotting of 20 acres allotted for education in Dhaulas, with authorities warning buyers and considering legal action.

The 20 acres in Dhaulas, Dehradun, were allotted to the Sheikhul Hind Education Charitable Trust in 2004 for educational purposes. The trust allegedly sold the agricultural land to 15 individuals, who subdivided it and sold plots to 70–80 others. Permission required the land to remain agricultural and barred non-agricultural use.

Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal formed a joint investigation team led by Additional District Magistrate K K Mishra, with revenue, forest and police personnel, to inspect and measure the site in Vikas Nagar. The administration plans legal action under the Zamindari Abolition Act after receiving its report. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the state would take over the land if violations are found.

The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority demolished boundary walls and internal roads, saying plotting proceeded without approved maps. It put up notices warning against investing in illegal plots and advising buyers to verify details. The site is 10 km from the Indian Military Academy. BJP MLA and spokesperson Vinod Chamoli sought cancellation of the allotment, citing security concerns.
