Delhi Traffic Police issued traffic advisory for New Rohtak Road due to underground cable laying work by Delhi Transco Ltd. from April 9, 2026 to May 17, 2026.

Affected stretch: Dev Nagar to JB-4 near Idgah via New Rohtak Road. Road cutting activity at multiple points between Liberty Cinema and Kamal T-Point.

Peak hours to avoid: 08:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 05:00 PM – 09:00 PM, particularly on weekdays.

Alternate route: Desh Bandhu Gupta Road.

Barricades installed for safety; lane movement expected to be slower. Commuters advised to plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time. Delhi Traffic Police requested public cooperation and advised monitoring real-time updates through official digital channels.

Delhi Cabinet Minister inspected ongoing stormwater drainage project along Rohtak Road. Project implemented by Public Works Department; estimated cost Rs 113.98 crore. Aims to improve rainwater drainage and prevent flooding on roads and nearby residential areas. Drainage system constructed from Kirari Suleman Drain near Nangloi Metro Station to Hiran Kudna Drain. Work covers stretches between Metro Pillar 428 and 626, extending from Tikri Border to Hiran Kudna Drain on both sides. Reinforced concrete cement drain width ranges 1.2 to 2.25 metres, designed for heavy storm water volumes. Around 16,000 metres completed; approximately 2,200 metres remain. Project began February 2025. Once completed, will improve stormwater flow from Nangloi Railway Metro Station to Tikri Border. Remaining portion under construction between Ghevra Metro Station and Tikri Kalan Metro Station. Once operational, rainwater from Nangloi region will flow through Kirari Suleman Drain to Hiran Kudna Drain. Related flood control project approved at Rs 23.51 crore to divert Kirari Suleman Drain discharge into Supplementary Drain; already completed.

In north Delhi, 8.5km of Rohtak Road and 3.5km of Outer Ring Road to Burari flyover are being revamped under the BJP government's road strengthening initiative covering 150km.

Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh inspected ongoing construction at Rohtak Road, a key route connecting Haryana to Delhi, and Barapullah flyover on 16 March 2025.

After complaints from locals earlier in March, the construction project transferred from PWD to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

NHAI now handles redevelopment of 18-km stretch between Peeragarhi Chowk and Tikri Border (Delhi-Haryana border); PWD handles drainage.

The stretch includes areas near three Delhi Metro stations and Indraprastha Gas Limited pipelines, requiring necessary approvals. Minister directed officials to fast-track permissions to prevent delays.

Minister emphasized strict quality control, warning that contractors would be blacklisted and responsible officials suspended for any quality compromise. Stated that bad roads contribute to rising pollution due to dust and congestion. Government committed to constructing high-quality, long-lasting roads.

Minister noted personal connection—his village Mundka is located nearby. Government determined to eliminate gap in road quality between Haryana and Delhi.
