Emergency teams evacuated dozens of students late Tuesday night from a multi-storey paying guest building in Chirag Delhi after occupants reported deep, widening cracks in load-bearing walls and support pillars. Authorities declared it unsafe. Male residents were moved to temporary facilities at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and female residents to the nearby College of Vocational Studies; officials are arranging safe alternative housing.

The inspections followed the collapse of a four-decade-old, five-storey PG near Delhi University's South Campus in Satya Niketan during basement renovation, which killed seven people and critically injured five. Police arrested three property owners; investigations into unauthorised structural alterations and civic negligence continue.

Task forces comprising the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Fire Services and police are auditing student areas including Satya Niketan, Mukherjee Nagar, Vijay Nagar and Laxmi Nagar. Authorities ordered identification and sealing of buildings with unauthorised floor additions, no structural stability certificates or no basic safety approvals. Owners operating illegal or hazardous PGs face prosecution.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) began construction on the Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block corridor, part of Phase IV’s Golden Line (Line-11). A groundbreaking and first test pile were held near Pushpa Bhawan in Saket. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is the executing agency. The corridor is the first stretch beyond Phase IV’s priority corridors to enter physical construction.

The fully elevated route will have eight stations: Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, GK-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. It will serve residential and commercial hubs including Greater Kailash-1, Saket and Pushp Vihar. Interchanges with the Violet and Pink Lines will be available at Lajpat Nagar and with the Magenta Line at Chirag Delhi, making Lajpat Nagar a triple-interchange station.

Trains are expected to carry around 900 passengers per trip, with up to 300 per coach. Projected ridership is over 1.2 lakh passengers daily by 2041.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) began construction on the Saket G Block–Lajpat Nagar section of the Golden Line (Line 11) on December 12, 2025. The 8-kilometre elevated corridor branches from the IGI Airport–Tughlaqabad corridor and is scheduled for completion in 2029. Its eight stations are Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. Lajpat Nagar will connect the Violet, Pink and Golden lines; Chirag Delhi will connect with the Magenta Line. DMRC said the corridor will improve access to residential hubs, institutions, schools and government offices in south Delhi. Initial earthwork is under way near Pushpa Bhawan; traffic permissions and diversions are not currently required. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is executing the package. The corridor was approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2024 as part of Metro Phase 4.
