Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) published draft master plan for Kurali municipal council and 78 adjoining villages under Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 1995.

Kurali included in 2009 regional plan but lacked dedicated master plan until now. Plan aims to regulate land use, guide urban growth, prevent unplanned construction, reduce civic infrastructure pressure.

Proposed master plan covers: residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and public land; expansion of major roads, transport networks, green belts, public utilities.

Kurali strategically located on National Highway with regional road connections. Officials believe planned development could transform it into major investment and employment destination on lines of Mohali and New Chandigarh.

Draft placed for inspection at GMADA headquarters, district town planner offices in Mohali and Kharar, Kurali municipal council office, and PUDA website. Public invited to submit objections and suggestions within 30 days.

Statutory process: district town planner prepares draft, sent to think tank committee chaired by deputy commissioner after public consultation, recommendations forwarded to state government for approval.

Former chief town planner Gurpreet Singh said plan guides development over next 20 years but effectiveness requires comprehensive traffic studies, infrastructure assessment, socio-economic surveys and realistic population projections. Questioned whether separate plan immediately necessary given scope for planned development within Mohali.

An expressway connecting Mohali IT City and Kurali has opened, reducing commute time by 45 minutes.

Punjab's first six-lane highway, the Mohali-Kurali stretch of NH-205A, experienced its first fatal accident before official opening. A three-vehicle pile-up on Sunday claimed the life of a 52-year-old woman and injured several others near Machhli Kalan, Kharar. The highway, built by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), remains under construction and not formally open to traffic. Motorists have begun using the partially completed stretch, which currently operates on a single lane due to ongoing work on the adjacent carriageway, forcing vehicles from both directions onto the narrow passage. According to complainant Ram Kumar, his family was travelling in two cars to visit relatives when the accident occurred near Chandigarh Road junction, where only one side of the highway was functional.

The Mohali-Kharar-Kurali bypass, part of the Chandigarh-Ambala Greenfield Corridor, opens December 1 after missing June and September deadlines. Six-lane highway, 31 km long, built under Government of India's Bharatmala Pariyojana at ₹1,400 crore cost by NHAI.

Highway starts from Mohali's IT Chowk, runs to Kurali, connects to Siswan–Baddi stretch. Provides direct route for traffic to Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Construction delayed by high-tension power lines in Kurali region and heavy rainfall/flooding in Punjab. Project began October 2022, undertaken by Maharashtra-based firm.

Expected benefits: reduce commute time between Chandigarh, Mohali, Kurali, Ambala and hill areas; ease congestion on Mohali–Kharar–Kurali stretch; speed freight to Derabassi, Laldu, Baddi, Rajpura, Barwala industrial centres; enhance logistics across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh.

Safety features include state-of-the-art technology, service lanes, modern lighting, advanced signboards. Automated toll plaza at Bajhedi village with eight lanes each side, one oversized vehicle lane, automatic toll deduction. Trial runs November 29-30; public opening December 1. Limited vehicular movement already begun.
