Central Avenue is the most prominent road of Nagpur. It is the oldest & longest road in the city. It basically connects railway station to main wholesale market like Itwari, Gandhibagh, Mahal, etc right upto residential areas upto Eastern Region of the city. It is very densely populated.

Central Avenue Road Project Delayed as Tendering Remains Pending

Nagpur’s ₹150-crore Central Avenue road and footpath redevelopment remains at tendering stage, while a separate ₹150-crore road project has begun construction.

Key facts

Six months after foundation stones were laid on December 15, 2025, two Nagpur road projects worth ₹150 crore each are progressing differently. The Public Works Department (PWD) has begun work on a 6.14-km, four-lane cement-concrete road from RBI Square to Automotive Square Metro Station, along the old National Highway-44 on the Nagpur–Jabalpur route, including stormwater drainage and civic infrastructure. MahaMetro has yet to award the contract for white-topping 6.1 km of Central Avenue, from Poddareshwar Ram Mandir to Prajapati Nagar (Pardi), and redeveloping footpaths. Elections for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Legislative Council delayed tendering; the process has now started, with work to begin after contract award. The projects include modern footpaths, improved drainage and dedicated cycle tracks. Nitin Gadkari said the concrete roads would remain pothole-free for at least 25 years.
