Aruppukottai West Bypass Road partly opened for traffic

A 9.1-km bypass road costing ₹154.99 crore was inaugurated in Aruppukottai to connect Virudhunagar with Madurai-Thoothukudi highway, reducing congestion.

Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran inaugurated the newly-laid portion of Aruppukkottai West Bypass Road on Friday. The 9.1-km-long road was constructed at ₹154.99 crore (₹119.50 crore for construction, ₹35.40 crore for land acquisition) under the Integrated Road Infrastructure Development Programme (IRIDP) 2022–2023. The bypass directly connects Virudhunagar with Tiruchuli Road and Madurai-Thoothukudi highway without passing through congested Aruppukottai town roads. The two-way carriage way is 10 metres with hard shoulders on both sides. The portion between the new roundabout on Virudhunagar-Aruppukottai Road and Madurai-Thoothukudi highway is now open to public use. Remaining work includes a road overbridge, expected to be completed within months. A new bus stand at Aruppukottai has been completed and will soon open. District Collector N.O. Sukhaputra was present at the inauguration.
