Anjur panchayat seeks water, waste and playground land

Thane Zilla Parishad CEO reviewed Samriddhi Panchayat Raj work in Anjur and heard demands for water supply, waste management land and a new playground.

  • The inspection was attended by Group Development Officer (Bhiwandi) Govind Khamkar, Sarpanch Chhaya Sham Janathe, Deputy Sarpanch Haresh Murli Dhar Naik, and members Sukesh Daki and Avinash Daki.
  • The committee raised several civic issues:
  • Water scarcity at S.S. Apartment, a 127-unit complex on Mankoli–Anjur Road; residents do not have access to the village water tank and want direct tapping from the Stem Authority’s main pipeline.
  • Proposal for 30 guntha of land in Survey No. 223 for a solid waste management plant; the village asked for the land transfer to be expedited.
  • Loss of the village’s only cricket ground due to the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Railway project; the committee demanded a new playground, also in Survey No. 223.
  • Request for permission to acquire adjacent land and a house to expand the Gram Panchayat office.
  • Yadav said the Zilla Parishad would coordinate with the relevant departments to seek quick solutions.
NGT orders cleanup of Bhiwandi wetlands in Anjur Dive

The NGT has ordered Thane authorities to restore four wetlands in Anjur Dive village, Bhiwandi, after dumping for warehouse-related land filling.

  • The tribunal said the owners of the concerned land must be held accountable for removing debris and restoring the wetlands; expenses must be borne by the landowners if they do not act.
  • The work must be completed within three months of the order being uploaded, and a compliance report must be filed before the tribunal.
  • Of the four wetland sites, three are on private land and one is under the gram panchayat.
  • The wetlands are close to creeks and mangroves in the coastal regulation zone.
  • MPCB survey findings said landowners should be held responsible for environmental degradation and environmental damage compensation should be levied.
  • Two sites had waste and debris dumped on a 1,10,000-square-metre plot along the Mumbai-Nashik highway and an 11,000-square-metre area in the village.
  • A third site near a graveyard had garbage stored on about 6,000 sq m.
  • The fourth site is a cattle grazing area under the gram panchayat, with waste from nearby houses stored about 134 metres from a school in Anjur.
