The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has submitted its Pay-and-Park proposal to the Standing Committee, which is scheduled to consider it on Thursday; if approved, it will go to the general body on August 18. The proposal covers Laxmi Road and Airport Road, with the first phase proposed experimentally on Laxmi Road. The tender was valued at ₹2,92,61,904; the tender received was ₹1,77,35,640.

The PMC had earlier planned a pilot on six roads: Jangali Maharaj Road, Gokhale Road, Laxmi Road, Bibvewadi Road, Balewadi High Street and Viman Nagar Road. Tenders were received for only Jangali Maharaj Road, Gokhale Road and Viman Nagar Road, with one contractor bidding for each; none were received for the other three, prompting re-tenders.

The scheme aims to reduce illegal parking and congestion by charging motorists to park in designated areas. The general body first approved the proposal eight years ago. In 2018, it also approved ‘No Parking, No Halting’ restrictions on five major roads and limited Pay-and-Park areas; the proposal was sent to the state government, which took no decision.

Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) standing committee approved an estimated ₹30.84 crore for acquiring about 14,629.76 square metres to build a 30-metre-wide alternate access road to Lohegaon Airport. The proposal goes to the PMC general body for final approval; compensation is based on 2026-27 ready reckoner rates, with the final amount to be set by the special land acquisition officer. The land acquisition will proceed under the 2013 land acquisition law after landowners responded tepidly to the PMC’s attempts to obtain land through transferable development rights and voluntary mechanisms. A total station survey identified survey numbers 226, 236, 237, 238 and 239 in Lohegaon village. The PMC has sought permission to submit the proposal to the district collector under section 126 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966; funding will come from the PMC road department budget. The Indian Air Force’s airport expansion will close the existing 12-metre-wide road through defence land, currently used by vehicles from 509 Chowk. The PMC general body approved the alternate alignment on February 18, 2020, and the state incorporated it into the development plan under section 37.

PMRDA officials said ₹636.84 crore for road connectivity to the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport at Purandar was sanctioned in last year’s budget.

From March 12, traffic changes were introduced around Pune Airport, Baner and Kharadi.

• Airport: Vehicles travelling from Pune Airport to Ramwadi via New Airport Road cannot turn right at Symbiosis Law College Chowk. They can make a U-turn at Dorabjee Mall Chowk or travel via Petrol Satha Chowk from Airport Chowk.
• Baner-Pashan: Vehicles heading to Savitribai Phule Pune University via Baner-Pashan Link Road should turn left near 45 Icon IT Company and make a U-turn at Mahabaleshwar Hotel Chowk. Vehicles from Baner Village heading to Baner-Pashan Link Road should make a U-turn at Mauli Petrol Pump, return to Mahabaleshwar Hotel Chowk and turn left. Diversions also affect Pashan Road.
• Kharadi: Vehicles from Kharadi Darga Chowk heading to Kharadi Village or Yuan IT Park via Kharadi Bypass cannot turn right. They should travel 250 metres beyond Kharadi Bypass Chowk, make a U-turn near House Bus Stand, then turn left at Kharadi Darga Chowk. Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende urged commuters to use the alternative routes.
