Service roads on both sides of the 28-kilometre Kozhikode bypass, from Vengalam to Ramanattukara, will be widened at narrow stretches. Some sections are only 3 metres wide or less; they will be expanded to 6.25 metres. Land acquisition has reached the 3A notification stage, with 2.13 acres (0.86 hectares) to be acquired. KMC, which built this bypass stretch, will carry out the work. If acquisition is completed within a month, widening is expected to finish within six months.

Narrow sections include Thondayad near Azhathrikovil and opposite Metro Hospital, Pottammal near Kozhikodan Hotel, Pantheerankavu and Ramanattukara. About 60 metres of service road is missing opposite Metro Hospital. Thondayad Junction’s four sides will also be widened to address increasing congestion.

Six pedestrian overpasses, with lifts, are awaiting approval in Kundupparambu-Mokavoor, Thondayad near Starcare Hospital, Azhathrikovil, opposite Metro Hospital, Pantheerankavu Athani and Azhinjilam Thali Temple. Some locations will instead have stairways with 42 steps.

Kerala allocated ₹20 crore for preliminary activities, including feasibility assessment and revision of the detailed project report. The proposed Medical College–Meenchanda alignment could attract interest in Medical College, Chevayur, Thondayad, Feroke, Mananchira, Palayam, Kallayi, Panniyankara, Vattakinar and Meenchanda. A 3–7% residential price premium near proposed stops is a working estimate; actual effects depend on route and station confirmation, commercial activity, approvals and execution. Transit-oriented development rules could allow higher floor area, mixed-use buildings, organised parking and improved pedestrian access, subject to notified boundaries, permitted FAR and municipal approvals.

Kochi Metro Phase I began operating in June 2017 on the 13.2-km Aluva–Palarivattom section with 11 stations. Edappally apartments average ₹8,750 per sq ft, up 22.4% in three years. Kakkanad averages ₹6,630 per sq ft, with 7.7% annual appreciation; the Kochi Metro Phase II alignment is 11.2 km long with 11 stations.

• Kerala’s 2026 Budget allocated ₹20 crore for Light Metro proposals in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram; feasibility work is continuing. The proposed 14.2-km elevated route from Meenchanda to Medical College via Thondayad has 15 stations, including Kallayi, Mananchira, Kottuli and Chevayur. Earlier estimates gave a four-year construction period; no commissioning date is confirmed.
• The Centre approved ₹206 crore to upgrade nine major Kozhikode roads. The airport’s Runway 10-28 expansion will add Runway End Safety Areas at both ends; AAI estimates associated works at ₹402 crore over 19 months.
• The Vengalam–Ramanattukara NH66 bypass section was inaugurated in 2026, improving intercity links towards Kannur and Malappuram. Mentioned corridors include Vengalam, Thondayad, Pantheerankavu, Ramanattukara and Feroke.
• Cyberpark has 300,000 sq ft of built-up space; a second building of nearly 400,000 sq ft is being processed under NABARD’s NIDA scheme. The Wayanad tunnel received Stage II Forest clearance in February 2026, with initial rock blasting in March.

Kerala’s 2026 state budget allocates ₹20 crore for follow-up work on the Kozhikode Light Metro. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said the project would be implemented and feasibility-study procedures were underway. KMRL proposed two routes: West Hill–Nadakkavu–Meenchanda–Cheruvannur–Ramanattukara, spanning 19 km, and Beach–Thondayad–Medical College, spanning 8.1 km. Final routes will depend on the feasibility study.

KMRL prepared a Comprehensive Mobility Plan about 1.5 years ago; the state approved it. It must be submitted to the Centre for approval before KMRL can prepare a detailed project report (DPR).

Planning began in 2011 with a 13.3-km monorail route from Medical College to Meenchanda and 14 stations; four companies responded to a global tender. DMRC prepared a monorail DPR, then submitted a Light Metro DPR in 2014 and updated it in 2017 after the national metro policy changed. KMRL later took over the project and prepared the mobility plan. MLA K. Jayanth’s intervention preceded the budget announcement.
