Thiruvananthapuram's state-owned Technopark received NABL accreditation for its engineering laboratory, the first in an IT park nationally.

Key facts

Technopark's civil and electrical engineering laboratories at Phase-I campus received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

The civil laboratory tests concrete and construction materials per Indian Standard specifications. The electrical laboratory tests and repairs LED fixtures, drivers and other components.

The accreditation enables Technopark to conduct in-house quality testing and verification of construction and electrical materials for infrastructure projects, reducing dependence on external testing facilities. The facility will be available to developers and companies operating in and around Technopark for material testing and compliance verification.

Benefits include strengthened quality control at material selection, performance verification and compliance monitoring stages; standardised test results enabling engineer decision-making; and reduced e-waste and maintenance costs from LED fixture repair capabilities.

CTO Madhavan Praveen noted the accreditation required sustained efforts and coordination by the engineering team. Civil Engineering Laboratory is headed by Rahul Thampi, Assistant Vice-President (Civil). The facility displays old engineering machinery showing evolution of engineering and testing technology.
