DPR begins for Tada–Nellore highway six-laning

The Detailed Project Report has begun for widening NH-16 between Tada and Nellore from four lanes to six lanes.

Key facts

Consultancy for the DPR has been entrusted to Sheladia Associates.
The project covers the Tada–Nellore stretch of National Highway-16 and the Nellore Bypass.
The highway is proposed to be widened from four lanes to six lanes.
District collector Himanshu Shukla said the aim is to increase the carrying capacity of the Chennai–Kolkata corridor, reduce congestion, and improve safety and travel speed.
Officials were asked to examine truck lay-bys at strategic locations and address stakeholder concerns, including increasing clearance under flyovers where needed.
The DPR will study traffic volumes, land acquisition requirements, environmental impact, highway and bridge design, and project costs.
The stretch is described as one of the few bottlenecks on NH-16; much of the highway beyond Tada towards Visakhapatnam has already been widened to six lanes.
The project is expected to improve Chennai–Nellore connectivity and support industrial growth, trade, logistics, and broader economic activity in the region.
