The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is nearing completion of a 30-km road as an alternative to the Talegaon-Shikrapur highway. The road will traverse phases 2 and 5 of Chakan MIDC before meeting the Pune-Nashik highway, running parallel to the existing highway in Chakan. MIDC superintendent engineer Nilesh Modhave said the authority plans to complete construction by December. Around 5.5 km of the road remains to be completed. Three sections still under construction include a 1.7-km stretch near Navlakh Umbre village entering Chakan MIDC from Talegaon and two 750-metre connector sections.

Public works minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale on 29 August 2026 directed officials to take up urgent repairs on the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor. Orders included restoration of 40km of the 54km stretch in 2 days and 14km in 4 days.

State government informed the legislative council that construction of the elevated corridor passing through Talegaon, Chakan and Shikrapur industrial belt will continue for 4 years. Traffic disruptions expected for commuters in the region during this period.

Maharashtra Public Works Department announced construction on Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur road will commence under Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. Contract awarded via open tender; MSIDC overseeing project. Traffic congestion on Chakan industrial corridor has long impacted commuters and freight movement; recent years saw escalated accidents and road damage. Talegaon to Chakan section: elevated four-lane plus parallel at-grade four-lane road. Chakan to Shikrapur section: six-lane corridor. Tolling via FASTag or GPS-based monitoring. State sanctioned ₹59.75 crore for interim repair and widening on existing NH-548D alignment to ease congestion and improve safety until new corridor completion. Land acquisition and tender finalisation to begin soon.

Four-lane elevated and at-grade road from Talegaon to Chakan; six-lane road from Chakan to Shikrapur. Corridor connects National Highway 48 (Mumbai–Pune) with National Highway 753 (Pune–Sambhajinagar). Existing two-lane road carries over 40,800 passenger car units daily. Project submitted by MSIDC in January; MSIDC will execute. Accident-prone zones in Maval taluka (Malwadi, Indori Bypass, Bhandara Dongar, Sudha Bridge) and Khed taluka (Mahalunge, Khalumbre, Shel Pimpalgaon, Sablewadi, Bahul) cited for narrow roads, steep slopes, dangerous curves. Funding through loan or Build-Operate-Transfer model. MoU planned between NHAI and Maharashtra government with 30-year concession agreement. Toll revenues to fund maintenance and operations. Budgetary provisions made in state budget; announced by finance minister Ajit Pawar.
