Residents of G Block in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar raised concerns after allegedly seeing workers laying and levelling asphalt during rainfall on Sunday. Residents feared newly resurfaced roads may not withstand wear and tear if construction standards were compromised due to wet weather. Activist Arvind Sharma stated: "We have waited for years for these roads to be repaired, so naturally we are happy that work has finally started. But carrying out re-carpeting during rain raises serious doubts about the quality of the project. If the road develops cracks or potholes within a short period, it will be public money going down the drain." Similar concerns were raised in another locality where roadwork allegedly continued during rainy conditions. LIT chairman Tarsem Bhinder said there would be no compromise on quality and stated: "Public money cannot be wasted. If any negligence or violation of standards is found, strict action will be taken against the contractor as well as the officials responsible." Directions have been issued not to undertake road re-carpeting during rainfall or unsuitable weather conditions.
