Sevvapet Road is the name of the railway station on Madras Central - Thiruvallur line. This railway station is situated alongside the MTH (Madras Thiruvallur Highway) within walking distance. The housing area between MTH Road and that railway station is in Thozhuvur Revenue village. One approved layout known as United India Nagar is just lying in between. If residential plots are available for outright sale, they may have many takers.

Sevvapet Railway Overbridge Remains Incomplete After More Than a Decade

The Sevvapet railway overbridge remains unfinished, forcing commuters from five to six villages onto diversions of nearly six kilometres.

The railway overbridge near Sevvapet railway station, linking Aranvoyal Road and Thiruvur Road and serving as a bypass for 5–6 villages, remains incomplete more than a decade after work began. Without it, commuters face a diversion of nearly 6 km, often via Putlur. Southern Railway completed its portion in 2016, but State Highways work was delayed by land acquisition, litigation and an interim court injunction; the schedule was pushed to 2021. Residents say the unfinished bridge has hindered emergency access, contributed to fatal accidents as people attempt to cross tracks, and hurt local businesses. The Sevvapet subway is an alternative, but residents report poor road conditions and inadequate construction staffing. A new subway is also being built near the station. The Highways Department says about 80% of the project is complete, including 16 of 17 bridge decks; remaining work is expected to finish within 2–3 months, after which the bridge can open.

The highway connects the Tiruvallur Bypass at Thirupachur with the Veppampattu Bypass at Thiruninravur, passing through Thaneerkulam, Thozhur, and Sevvapet. As of August 1, 15 km of 18 km is complete.

The new stretch is an access-controlled, fully fenced national highway with service roads on both sides. It allows traffic toward Tiruttani and Tirupati to bypass Tiruvallur town, Veppampattu areas, and the narrow two-lane Thiruninravur-Tiruvallur section. The 18-km project cost Rs 304 crore (begun 2022) and includes provisions for future six-lane expansion without additional land acquisition.

The entire 62-km stretch from Thiruninravur to Tirupati will be access-controlled four-lane with service roads. Simultaneously, the 44-km Tiruvallur to Tamil Nadu-Andhra border stretch launched last year at Rs 750 crore; 12% complete. The existing four-lane Chennai-Tirupati Highway runs 22 km from Padi-Korattur junction to Thiruninravur; the state highways department proposed widening it to six lanes but works remain stalled due to land acquisition issues.
