City Beautiful's property market highlighted its exclusivity, with three one-kanal residential plots in Sector 19 fetching ₹22 crore each and a two-kanal plot in Sector 33 going for ₹33 crore in the UT estate office's latest e-auction that concluded on Thursday, September 4.
Sector 33 is a quiet residential pocket largely inhabited by defence personnel, while Sector 19 is considered a hub of businessmen and is home to one of the city's busiest markets.
The auction, held September 2-4, generated ₹168.85 crore in revenue against a reserve price of ₹75.29 crore. 20 sites were offered: 13 residential plots and 2 commercial sites sold; residential properties were freehold, commercial ones leasehold.
Reserve prices and sales: Sector 33 plot reserve ₹14 crore, sold ₹33 crore (more than double). Sector 19 plots reserve ₹7.42 crore each, sold ₹22 crore each. SCO site 324 sq yards in Sector 8-C sold ₹20 crore against reserve ₹14.52 crore. Booth 25 sq yards in Sector 44 sold ₹2.25 crore against reserve ₹76 lakh (nearly triple).
288 applicants submitted 587 applications. 15 sites auctioned at significantly higher prices than reserve value. 5 commercial sites received only single bids and will be included in the next auction round.
Kamal Gupta, president of the Property Consultants Association, Chandigarh, said residential sites are selling at unprecedented rates, out of reach for common man, while commercial sites got poor response because they are on leasehold.
