Kona Expressway Construction Triggers Goods-Vehicle Curbs From August 10

Traffic restrictions from August 10 will regulate goods vehicles on the Kona Expressway and connected routes during construction of its six-lane elevated corridor.

From August 10, Howrah City Police and Kolkata Police will impose traffic restrictions during construction of the six-lane elevated corridor on Kona Expressway.

  • Kolkata-bound goods vehicles cannot use Kona Expressway from Nibra between 6 am and 11 pm; Howrah-bound goods vehicles cannot use the expressway via Vidyasagar Setu during those hours.
  • Kolkata-side goods vehicles bound for Howrah and NH-16/NH-19 may use Vidyasagar Setu–Kona Expressway–Nibra–NH-16 or Vidyasagar Setu–Howrah Andul Road–Alampur–NH-16 only from 11 pm to 6 am. Vehicles on Andul Road must be below 4.5 metres because of the Mourigram rail-over-bridge.
  • Kolkata-bound goods vehicles from Dankuni may use Dankuni crossing–Maitypara–Nibedita Setu from 10 pm to 6 am. From Kolaghat via NH-16, they may use Ranihati–Dhulagarh–Nibra–Kona Expressway–Vidyasagar Setu from 11 pm to 6 am.
  • No Kolkata-bound goods vehicle may enter from Alampur or Salap towards Vidyasagar Setu via Andul Road at any time. Cars and buses may use Kona Expressway as usual.
  • HGVs and MGVs are restricted from 6 am to 11 pm on Vidyasagar Setu and ramps, CGR Road east from Bascule Bridge, Garden Reach Road and connecting feeder roads. Kolkata-side goods vehicles using NH-12 may take Tala Bridge–BT Road–Nivedita Setu from 10 pm to 6 am. LPG, CNG, petroleum, oil, lubricants, oxygen, vegetables, medicine, fruits, fish and milk vehicles may travel as usual. Goods vehicles must display their destination on the windscreen.
