Rajpur, 24 Parganas South

About

Rajpur sits in the southern suburban belt of Kolkata, within South 24 Parganas’ Rajpur-Sonarpur municipality. Everyday destinations are relatively close: Rajpur Bazar is about 2 km from the locality centre, Subhasgram railway station about 4 km and Kavi Subhash Metro station about 10 km. The municipality says its bus routes connect the area with Kolkata and neighbouring districts. For a household choosing between Rajpur and an address closer to central Kolkata, the station or Metro journey is a material part of the decision.

Connections and daily life

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road is an important route through the Rajpur-Sonarpur area. The municipal office is on the road at Harinavi. Suburban rail provides a route towards Kolkata, while Kavi Subhash Metro station is farther away than Subhasgram station. The EM Bypass serves the wider southern corridor. The Telegraph reported in August 2026 that it runs towards Baruipur and links with Kolkata’s Salt Lake, New Town and Sector V job hubs. Those hubs remain a substantial cross-city journey from Rajpur. The locality is a more natural base for people whose regular travel is within the southern suburbs or along the rail corridor than for someone commuting to Sector V every working day.

Nearby amenities include an Apollo Pharmacy outlet about 2 km away, Antara Psychiatric Centre about 3 km away and Ramakrishna Mission Ashram about 5 km away. Medica Superspecialty Hospital, Hiland Park Metropolis Mall and Greater Kolkata College of Engineering and Management are farther out, at roughly 12–14 km; Jadavpur University is about 15 km away. Families can access these larger institutions, but they are not on Rajpur’s doorstep. For students at Jadavpur University, Rajpur is a less direct base than a neighbourhood nearer the campus.

Drainage is a specific local drawback. Bartaman Patrika reported in July 2026 that parts of the Rajpur-Sonarpur municipal area, including nearby Sonarpur and Subhasgram, face recurring waterlogging after heavy rain. The report said an MLA had discussed a permanent response with irrigation officials; the work was planned, not completed. The condition of the approach road and surrounding lanes during the monsoon therefore affects the experience of a particular address.

Asking rents and property mix

Asking rents on PropertyWala put industrial land in Rajpur at about ₹5 per sq ft from 2025 Q3 to 2026 Q3, level with the South 24 Parganas average. Warehouses and godowns asked about ₹12 per sq ft from 2024 Q2 to 2026 Q1, against roughly ₹13 per sq ft across the district.1 The rental listings on the site are for industrial land and warehouse space, so the figures reflect commercial occupancy, not the monthly cost of a family home.

The distinction matters for buyers and residential tenants. Across South 24 Parganas, the advertised property mix is led by apartments, followed by residential land and independent houses. Rajpur’s current figures offer a useful comparison for someone seeking a yard or godown on the southern side of Kolkata, but there is no comparable current residential asking rate for Rajpur. Rental property advertised in Rajpur is the relevant PropertyWala search for that commercial requirement; home seekers are better served by comparing surrounding residential neighbourhoods on their own terms.

Rajpur also requires care over place names. Rajpur is a locality within the wider Rajpur-Sonarpur municipality; a project advertised as being in Rajpur-Sonarpur is not automatically in Rajpur itself. That distinction affects the practical distance to Subhasgram station, Kavi Subhash Metro and the main roads. New residential development reported along the Southern EM Bypass belongs to the wider corridor: The Times of India reported a launch there in September 2026, but it was not a Rajpur project.

The residential decision

For families, Rajpur’s appeal lies in its established southern-suburban setting, local bazar, rail access and proximity to schools and healthcare across the wider area. The trade-off is distance: the Metro, larger hospitals, university and major employment centres all require onward travel. A tenant who uses suburban rail and spends most days in the south has a different commute from a professional travelling across Kolkata.

For buyers focused on new apartments, nearby Sonarpur and Garia offer a clearer starting comparison within the district. Amrit Green Valley in Sonarpur and Anushka Southern Nook in Garia are project pages for those respective areas, not examples of construction in Rajpur. Subhasgram is another practical comparison for anyone prioritising suburban rail. Rajpur’s commercial rental figures give industrial occupiers a more precise basis for comparison than they give residential investors.

PropertyWala's verdict

Rajpur suits households whose lives are centred on Kolkata’s southern suburbs and occupiers seeking industrial land or warehouse space at around district-level rents. Buyers set on a new residential project, and tenants who need a short daily journey to the Metro or Sector V, have stronger reasons to search nearer those destinations.
