Cloudbursts and heavy overnight rain on September 16, 2025, caused rivers and streams to swell across Dehradun. Homes, shops and government property were damaged, and a bridge was washed away. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said roads were washed out at about 25–30 locations and connecting routes were cut off. A 100-metre road in Maldevta, Raipur, was washed away; the Rishikesh–Dehradun highway collapsed at Mazri village after the Jakhan river rose. The Tamsa river overflowed and inundated Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple. The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Dehradun and Tehri Garhwal. Police and SDRF teams conducted rescue operations, and schools for classes 1–12 in Dehradun were closed. Separately, a landslide in Nihri, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, killed three people and two were rescued; heavy rain flooded Dharampur town’s bus stand.
