The completed Sipara–Mahuli phase cuts travel time to six minutes, while the Mithapur–Sipara phase awaits design finalisation and is due by November 2025.
Key facts
The completed and inaugurated first phase of the Mithapur–Mahuli elevated road lets commuters travel from Sipara to Mahuli in six minutes, down from more than 30 minutes amid frequent traffic jams. Ramps near Bhupatipur provide access. The corridor is expected to ease trips to Gaya, Jehanabad, Arwal and Aurangabad, and connect with three national highways; the headline also cites travel to Rajgir.
The second phase, from Mithapur to Sipara, is stalled pending finalisation of the design for the Anisabad–Didarganj eight-lane elevated road. Officials expect the remaining work to be completed by November 2025 once the design is ready. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the project’s foundation stone on September 22, 2020. M/s Afcons Infrastructure Limited is constructing it. Features include noise barriers, drainage, street lighting and anti-glare median screens. Road Construction Minister Nitin Navin said it would help South Bihar travellers avoid traffic jams on their way to Patna.
