Hindustan Times · · Infrastructure
NHAI has awarded a fresh ₹378-crore contract to complete the 34-km highway’s four-laning, with work expected to finish by the end of 2028.
Key facts
The remaining work on the 34-km Pinjore-Baddi-Nalagarh highway is expected to begin in August 2026, after a fresh tender was awarded in the last week of July. The contractor has two years to finish. Four-laning will extend to the Nalagarh sub-station; already four-lane stretches beyond it will be strengthened.
The road will have four 3.5-metre lanes, a carriageway around 15 metres wide and 1.5-metre paved shoulders on both sides. Concrete service roads at least 7 metres wide, subject to available space, will serve local settlements. Separate stormwater and domestic wastewater drains are planned; one drain is complete.
The project includes 104 culverts, 16 minor bridges and five major bridges. About 17.6 km lies in Himachal Pradesh, with the rest in Haryana. Approved in April 2009 and launched in April 2022, it was originally awarded with a 30-month deadline. Only about 38% was complete by December 2024; the deadline shifted from September 2024 to August 2025. NHAI terminated the contractor in February 2025 over delays linked to land compensation and soil-extraction permissions. Around 20,000 vehicles use the route daily.

MP and Himachal Government Clash Over Highway Project Delays
Hindustan Times · · Infrastructure
MP Suresh Kashyap blamed Himachal Pradesh for delays to the Pinjore–Baddi–Nalagarh highway, while the state said land compensation was awarded.
Key facts
MP Suresh Kashyap, a former BJP state president, accused the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government of derailing the Pinjore–Baddi–Nalagarh National Highway project by failing to provide land and clearances. He said information from the Union road transport and highways ministry, provided in response to his question during the recent session, showed the project had not stalled on its own.
Kashyap claimed the National Highways Authority of India foreclosed its contract with Patel Infrastructure after state-created bottlenecks made work impossible. He said the Centre had initiated fresh tenders and deployed maintenance agencies to keep the road functional.
Naresh Chauhan, principal media adviser to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, called the BJP’s accusations baseless. He said the state had awarded land-acquisition compensation, received praise from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and provided the funds for acquisition; he said the contractor’s departure was unrelated to land acquisition or the state’s role.
