On July 13, the Jharkhand government began steps to establish a permanent market for hundreds of street vendors in Pandra, Ranchi. Urban Development Minister Sanjay Seth and Ranchi Mayor Roshni Khalkho inspected vacant government land opposite Pandra Police Station and near Pandra Bridge to assess its feasibility. The proposed market would include covered sheds, clean public toilets and other basic amenities, provide vendors a secure place to trade and reduce repeated eviction risks. Relocating roadside vendors is also expected to improve traffic management and urban planning while preserving their business opportunities. Ward 32 Councillor Sanjay Kumar, Ward 33 Councillor Pushpa Toppo and Ward 34 Councillor Ajit Kachhap, along with other local leaders and officials, joined the inspection.

Rotten potato, onion, ginger, garlic, fruit and other food waste is dumped near drains and the Pandra police outpost, creating a strong stench; traders and staff say there are not enough bins. Rainwater leaks through roofs and walls, putting goods in shops and warehouses at risk. Traders say they pay market committee taxes but receive inadequate services, and some pay for repairs themselves. Poor parking leads to trucks unloading on roads and occasional disputes. Counting during elections also shuts the market and affects business. More than 20,000 people’s families depend on the market for their livelihoods. SDO Kumar Rajat said he would arrange an inspection and take necessary action.
