On Wednesday, December 3, heavy rain flooded at least 100 homes in Palavoyal near Red Hills, leaving more than 200 residents trapped in hip-level water; some pockets reached chest level. The affected low-lying area includes Palavoyal, Kumaran Nagar, Murugan Street and stretches along Sothupakkam Main Road. Residents said poor rainwater drainage and lake breaches worsened the flooding, a recurring problem for more than a decade, with even moderate rain causing waterlogging. Water from the main road usually drains into Singilimedu Lake. Fire and Rescue Services rescued 56 people—18 children, 19 men and 15 women—using two lorries and a boat.
