GHMC Demolishes Leaning Siddiq Nagar Building, Plans Notices

GHMC demolished a five-storey building in Siddiq Nagar after it leaned, filed a case against its owner and plans notices to over 500 buildings.

A five-storey building in Siddiq Nagar, Gachibowli, leaned between 7 and 8 pm on Tuesday, leaving about 50 residents homeless. Built on 50 square yards, it had 12 rooms, each shared by 4 to 6 people. GHMC demolished it on Wednesday and sealed the premises. Residents’ belongings remained inside.

Owner V. Laxman said neighbouring construction workers had excavated 11 feet with a JCB to lay pillars, damaging his building’s foundation. He said the building was built two years ago; he lived there with his wife and two children and filed a complaint at Madhapur police station.

GHMC’s Serilingampally Zonal Commissioner said cases were filed against Laxman for building five floors in violation of rules. The corporation will issue notices to illegal constructions among Siddiq Nagar’s more than 500 buildings, and cited similar situations in Anjayya Nagar, Ayyappa Society, TNGO Colony, Gokul Plots and Kavuri Hills. A neighbour said tiny rooms rent for over ₹10,000 and hostel beds for ₹15,000.
