Green Building at Borivali in Mumbai.

The very first green building complex is poised to arise on an expansive plot of fifty-two thousand square meters in Borivali. This initiative is a component of the BMC’s upgradation strategies for the Civic Training Institute & Research Centre (CTIRC), conveniently located near the National Park. Mr. P K Das, the project consultant, stated, "It will have all the standard features of Platinum buildings under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system."

Platinum is regarded as the highest designation granted by the US Green Building Council's LEED framework for green buildings globally. The CTIRC will integrate aspects inspired by prominent Platinum buildings already established in India, such as the ITC Centre in Gurgaon, the Grundfos Pumps Corporate Office in Chennai, and the IOC Corporate Office situated in New Delhi.

The complex has been designed to utilize an array of energy conservation techniques, ensuring low heat and abundant natural lighting throughout the day. Rooms will be equipped with sensors that automatically turn off the lights either when there is ample natural light or when they are unoccupied. Additionally, the project will feature systems for ground water recharge, rainwater harvesting, and solar energy utilization. To mitigate harmful emissions, internal roads designated for vehicular traffic will be strategically planned along the complex's periphery. Existing classrooms and hostels will also undergo modifications to enhance energy efficiency. The BMC has already reached out to contractors to invite tenders for eager execution of this environmentally focused project.
