SDMC Streamlines Building Plan Approvals, Witnesses Surge in Compliance
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has given the green light to a remarkable 180 building plans within the last two months. This achievement follows the corporation's implementation of a digitized and simplified single-window clearance system in April. The move has streamlined the once cumbersome process of obtaining building plan approvals.
Digitization Drives Increased Adherence to Regulations
Sources within the SDMC's building departments indicate that the digitization initiative is encouraging greater compliance with building regulations. Citizens are now finding it easier to navigate the process and follow stipulated guidelines.
Mayor Highlights Efficiency Gains
SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma emphasized the significant time savings achieved through the new system. "In the past," Mayor Sharma stated, "the process to approve a single building plan used to take much longer. Over the last two years, plans approved by the SDMC have increased substantially."
Simplified Online Application Process Eliminates Office Visits
Officials explained that the online application form for building plans is user-friendly and straightforward, eliminating any requirement for applicants to physically visit the SDMC offices. "Previously," an official elaborated, "people had to endure numerous, often difficult, rounds of visits to get their building plans approved. Now, residents can conveniently track the status of their applications online."
Online Payment System Reduces Corruption
The introduction of online payment for building plan approvals has further enhanced transparency and minimized opportunities for corruption. The official also elucidated that several procedural steps have been simplified. For instance, only a single affidavit is now required instead of multiple documents. Furthermore, the online availability of the official list of architects and structural engineers eliminates any ambiguity and promotes clarity for applicants. "This system removes the need for physical cash transactions, helping curb instances of corruption. Add to this that the online list of architects and engineers and the single affidavit requirement eliminate room for any procedural misunderstandings, highlighting a significant step towards more transparent processes,” the official added.
