In a move aimed at regularizing unauthorized settlements across Delhi, the Housing Ministry has formally handed over conveyance deeds and registration documents to 20 residents residing in Raja Vihar and Suraj Park.

The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, recently presented registration papers and conveyance deeds to more than 20 residents of the previously unapproved settlements of Raja Vihar and Suraj Park locality in Delhi. This action, undertaken as part of the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorized Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY), is expected to greatly benefit an estimated 40 lakh residents throughout the National Capital Territory.

To date, approximately 57,000 residents have registered with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in order to obtain the necessary certificates for regularization. According to authority representatives, approximately 3,500 applicants have already submitted their applications and are expected to receive their registration documents soon.

Tarun Kapoor, the Vice Chairman of the DDA, elucidated the registration process, explaining that applicants must begin by submitting all required documents on the DDA website. Following document submission, a team of officials representing the development authority conducts a site visit to the applicant's residence for verification purposes and to collect conveyance deed charges. Subsequently, the applicant is required to visit the sub-divisional office to procure the registration papers.

The central Government intends to establish a Special Development Fund (SDF) under the PM-UDAY initiative. This SDF will be funded by the revenue generated from conveyance deeds and property registration charges. It will be specifically utilized to enhance the social infrastructure within the 1,731 unauthorized colonies that are included in the scheme.
