Naya Gaon municipal council carried out enforcement action for the second consecutive day on Thursday, February 5, 2026, focusing on the Kansal catchment of Sukhna Lake. Acting on district administration directions and Punjab and Haryana High Court orders, authorities removed encroachments and illegal structures in ecologically sensitive, restricted and floodplain areas. Senior municipal officials supervised the operation, with police deployed and the Naya Gaon station house officer present. Officials said structures obstruct natural rainwater flow, increase flood risks and threaten the environment. Despite prior notices and repeated warnings, encroachments remained. Further violations may lead to demolition and penal proceedings. Residents and property owners were advised to follow approved building plans, land-use regulations and court directions.

The district administration carried out an anti-encroachment drive in Naya Gaon on Monday, complying with High Court directions. The operation targeted unauthorised constructions in the Kansal catchment area of Sukhna Lake, including structures around Patiala Ki Rao and parts of Shivalik Vihar. Officials said the restricted catchment and floodplain zones are ecologically sensitive and support drainage linked to the lake. Several notices had been issued, but multiple structures still breached land-use norms and environmental safeguards; some obstructed natural drainage channels. The phased demolition was supervised by the designated nodal officer, with AME, building inspector, general inspector and executive officer teams participating. Police, including the Naya Gaon SHO, maintained law and order. The administration warned that future violations in the catchment, along Patiala Ki Rao or in other protected zones would face strict action, and urged residents and property owners to follow sanctioned building plans and regulations.

Deputy commissioner Komal Mittal urged residents of Mohali, Kharar, Kurali, Zirakpur, Derabassi, Naya Gaon, Banur, Lalru and Gharuan to clear property-tax dues under Punjab’s One-time Settlement Scheme. Municipal offices will open on Saturdays and Sundays for collections.

• Payments from August 1 to October 31, 2025, receive a 50% waiver. After October 31, full penalty and interest apply.
• The district collected ₹12.59 crore since July 1. Collections included Zirakpur ₹814.94 lakh, Kharar ₹227 lakh, Dera Bassi ₹125.62 lakh, Naya Gaon ₹32.90 lakh, Kurali ₹26.95 lakh and Banur ₹18.51 lakh.

The Mohali district administration carried out a large-scale anti-encroachment drive in Naya Gaon targeting illegal constructions in the ecologically sensitive Kansal catchment of Sukhna Lake, in compliance with Punjab and Haryana High Court directions.

The operation was supervised by a nodal officer with participation of building inspector, general inspector, executive officer and police force. It focused on illegal structures in and around Patiala Ki Rao and Shivalik Vihar within restricted environmental zones.

Officials stated constructions violated court orders, environmental regulations and land-use norms despite repeated notices and warnings. Encroachments obstruct natural rainwater channels, increase flood risks and contribute to environmental degradation.

The district administration stated a zero-tolerance policy on unauthorised construction or encroachment in Kansal catchment, Patiala Ki Rao or other protected zones. Future violations will invite strict legal action including demolition and penal proceedings without further notice. Residents and property owners were advised to adhere to approved building plans, land-use norms and court directives.
