The Greater Chennai Corporation has launched a ₹144.69-crore Narayanapuram Lake redevelopment to reinforce its bund, improve access and add public amenities.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has set in motion a ₹144.69-crore project to redevelop Narayanapuram Lake in Perungudi ahead of the northeast monsoon. Work includes raising a low retaining wall along the bund, stone pitching and reinforced embankments. Plans also include another retaining wall with handrails, a block-paved walking path around the lake, gates, entrance plazas, lighting, tree planting, Vetiver grass, roadside plantations and habitat islands.

Pathways will connect Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road, Sunnambu Kolathur Main Road and Erikkarai Salai. Work is scheduled for completion within six months of handover. In December 2023, the lake overflowed for about 36 hours, inundating nearby homes, cutting off power and washing away vehicles.
