A fire broke out around 6am on Monday at an ice cream factory in a two-storey house near Kavelu Quarters, Sadbhavana Nagar, Nandanvan, Nagpur. The building, at plot 129 near Sai temple, is owned by Ashish Mohikar. The blaze gutted six cold-storage machines, cables and other material. Neighbours alerted the Nagpur Municipal Corporation control room; firefighters from Lakadganj fire station, led by station in-charge Prakash Kawadkar, brought it under control. A preliminary report said a short circuit in an ice cream-making machine may have caused the fire. No casualties were reported. The Mohikar family lives on the first floor; the factory’s operation in a residential area has raised questions about fire safety and the legality of the cold-storage facility.

NMC has already recovered Rs12 crore from govt departments. Civic body considering 10% property tax hike for citizens to compensate for shortfall.

Large-scale flyover construction is causing disruption across eastern Nagpur, particularly in Nandanvan, Hasanbagh, KDK College Road, Ishwar Nagar Chowk–Wathoda Road and Kadari Square.
