Patna Metro Rail’s Corridor-I underground section is progressing along the 10.5-km Mithapur-Rukanpura stretch beside Nehru Path (Bailey Road). At Rukanpura, steel reinforcement cages are being lowered to build diaphragm walls for the underground station. The Red Line underground section will have six stations: Patna Junction, Vidyut Bhawan, Vikas Bhawan, Patna Zoo, Raja Bazaar and Rukanpura. Patna Junction will be an interchange with the other metro line.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated the Mithapur–Karbighiya and Mithapur–Mahuli flyovers at Patna’s Mithapur roundabout on August 28, 2026; both opened to traffic. Deputy Chief Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav, Cabinet Minister Ramkripal Yadav and Phulwarisharif MLA Shyam Rajak attended.

The Road Construction Department and Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation completed surfacing, lighting and signage. The Mithapur–Karbighiya flyover is expected to ease congestion near Patna Junction and Karbighiya roundabout. A ground-level service road serves passengers travelling to the Karbighiya side of the station.

The second phase of the Mithapur–Mahuli–Punpun elevated road is complete, including a 2.1-km stretch between Mithapur and Sipara. Its first phase, from Sipara to Mahuli–Punpun, opened in June 2025. The full approximately 9-km Mithapur–Mahuli route can now be covered in 7–8 minutes. The flyovers connect with the Mithapur–Sipara–Mahuli elevated road, improving routes towards Gaya, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Arwal, Biharsharif and Rajgir.

On June 14, 2025, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the under-construction Mithapur-Mahuli four-lane elevated road at the Mithapur flyover roundabout and Parsa Bazar, expressing dissatisfaction with the slow progress. He directed officials to expedite construction and the Zeromile–Masaurhi (SH-1) road so the project can be completed before its due time. The elevated road is expected to ease congestion, particularly around the New Bypass, and reduce travel time. Kumar also visited Patliputra Bus Terminal and instructed officials to improve passenger arrangements and facilities.

Officials accompanying him included Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar; Secretary Kumar Ravi; Patna Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh; BSRDC Managing Director Shirshat Kapil Ashok; BUIDCO Managing Director Animesh Parashar; Patna District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan S.M.; and SSP Avkash Kumar.

Nippon Koei India Private Limited was awarded a ₹275.24 crore consultancy contract for implementing the Patna Metro Rail Construction Project, under PMRCL reference PMRCL/DP/NIT-03/RFP. Purchase Order No. 59319 is dated 26 September 2026. The award is against an estimated/PAC cost of ₹391 crore, about 29.61% or ₹115.76 crore lower. It is a consultancy contract, not a civil construction package; its stated scope includes design and engineering review and construction supervision.

The Government of India lists Phase I at 32.507 km with a sanctioned cost of ₹13,365.77 crore.

Patna Station and Khemni Chak are identified as interchange stations on both corridors.
