Citizens should notify the local municipality about structurally unsound buildings, or the relevant block development officer if outside municipality jurisdiction. Citizens are advised not to reside in or conduct activities in such premises. Building safety responsibility rests with owners and occupants. In July, the district collector issued a demolition order for 'Cabecca de Calconde' building in Margao, deemed unsafe by Margao municipality. Another dilapidated building, Indira Apartments at Khareband, also faces demolition. The Public Works Department shortlisted contractors for demolition.

Cabecca de Calconde demolition order was initially issued November 2023 but delayed due to MMC chief officer inaction. Two parapet collapses in Margao within 48 hours prompted action; on May 27, the collector directed immediate demolition orders for both structures.

Indira Apartments: 23 of 26 families vacated, three awaiting relocation. Cabecca de Calconde: one resident remaining, matter under judicial review in high court.

Cabecca de Calconde classified "unsafe for human habitation" in 2018 by Goa College of Engineering. Structural evaluation found it "beyond repairable and retrofittable condition" due to deteriorated concrete in columns, corroded reinforcement bars, crumbling concrete, and dangerously suspended GI sheets.
