Traffic from Prayagraj via Mohansarai enters Varanasi mainly through Mudaila-Marhauli and Baulia-Lehartara, affecting Manduadih and Baulia-Lehartara crossings. Delayed widening on roads linking the city to the Prayagraj highway and Maha Kumbh traffic slowed movement. At Manduadih, work shifting electric poles and preparing the road base disrupted traffic; scattered stones and bricks added to delays. A dumper tyre burst while removing debris, injuring a home guard and a passer-by. Traffic on the Lehartara-BLW route moved slowly despite diversions, while both lanes at Baulia-Lehartara were diverted onto a two-lane PWD road.
The district magistrate inspected the Mohansarai-Lehartara conversion on November 23, 2024, and criticised slow progress on drains, pole relocation and tree cutting near Rohaniya police station. Divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma set a December 31 deadline; PWD completed only the double-lane Jagatpur-Lehartara stretch. On January 20, 2025, the DM ordered one day’s salary withheld from PWD executive engineers and sought explanations over delays and inaccurate budget information. Work restarted simultaneously on January 21, including building demolitions near Manduadih, drains, road bases and pole shifting.
