Machilipatnam town is very conservation and not a good place to invest bucks in lands. Since decades rural/unban areas of town facing sanitary/water/power cut problems. Over a past decade public is believing the sea port will change the economic growth of town but actual fact is it is not a suitable place to construct a sea port & sea bed is horizontal and don't have proper channel for ship docks it needs huge dredging process.

Machilipatnam greenfield port nears completion for 2026 launch

A new greenfield port at Manginapudi in Machilipatnam is 48% complete and is expected to begin operations by end-2026.

- Around 48% of construction of the greenfield port at Manginapudi, Machilipatnam, has been completed.
- About 1,250 workers are engaged round the clock in two shifts.
- Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) project manager G Tulasidas said operations are expected to start by the end of 2026.
- The project involved dredging 56 million cubic metres of sand.
- A 2.5-km breakwater is being built using 2.1 million tonnes of rock.
- Three-tonne tetrapods are being used to shield the port; 55% of tetrapod casting is complete and placement is under way.
- The project has faced delays since 2007, when the contract was first given to Maytas, then to Navayuga, and later cancelled when the YSR Congress Party government came to power.
- In 2020, Machilipatnam Port Development Corporation Ltd was formed as a special purpose vehicle to develop the port in landlord model, and the EPC bid was awarded to MEIL.
- First-phase cost: ₹5,155 crore for four berths.
- Master plan allows expansion to 16 berths.
