PCMC Approves ₹55 Crore Shivar Chowk–Kunal Icon Road Upgrade

PCMC approved a ₹55 crore road upgrade in Pimple Saudagar, adding wider roads, footpaths, parking and drainage, with completion expected within 30 months.
Key facts
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) approved development of the road from Shivar Chowk to Govind Garden Chowk, known as Kunal Icon Road, with administrative approval of ₹55 crore. The work will widen and modernise existing 18-metre and 12-metre roads, adding pedestrian footpaths, planned parking, rainwater drainage, utility pipes, street lighting and directional signboards.
Work was expected to begin by the end of September 2024 and finish within 30 months. The road connects to the Wakad–Nashik Phata Road and the old Mumbai–Pune and Mumbai–Bengaluru highways. It will be funded through the Urban Transport Fund and executed under PCMC’s Civil Project Department. The tender amount was ₹42.43 crore and the accepted tender cost was ₹33.67 crore. PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh said the project aims to reduce congestion and improve commuter safety.
