Kovilpalayam is emerging as a residential hub in Coimbatore, driven by transport facilities and infrastructure development. The locality is part of Coimbatore's rapid urban expansion creating new residential destinations beyond traditional city limits.

The platform at Kovilpalayam railway station was demolished 15 years ago during broad-gauge works. The Coimbatore-Pollachi passenger train previously stopped there. Hundreds of passengers from dozens of villages now depend on buses to reach Pollachi and Coimbatore for work and education. Local residents and the Pollachi Train Passenger Welfare Association have requested revival of the station with a stoppage for the passenger train. About Rs 25 lakh is required for platform construction. The nearest railway access is Kinathukkadavu station, approximately 10 km away between Podanur and Pollachi stations. Kovilpalayam is described as a developing industrial hub with hundreds of workers including migrants employed by several companies. Southern Railway officials appeared receptive during a recent meeting with the Divisional Railway Manager Palakkad. Local representatives have approached the Pollachi MP and MLAs to take up the matter with the Palakkad railway division. DRUCC members of the Palakkad railway division support the demand.

Pollachi Lok Sabha MP K. Eswarasamy urged the Railway Ministry to restore and reopen Chettipalayam and Kovilpalayam railway stations on the Pollachi–Coimbatore route. Both stations, which had served the public for decades since the British era, closed during gauge conversion works.

Eswarasamy said the stations were important access points for thousands of students, farmers, senior citizens and people travelling for medical and commercial purposes. Chettipalayam station comes under the Salem Division; Kovilpalayam is under the Palakkad Division.

He welcomed reports that the Ministry had sanctioned new stations at Karivalamvandanallur and Chozhapuram on the Madurai–Sengottai route, but said existing stations continued to remain closed while new ones were being developed elsewhere. He said reopening the two stations would provide convenient, affordable travel and urged the Ministry to act, citing public consternation over the delay.

G Square Housing launched G Square Lavender, a plotted development in Kovilpalayam, Coimbatore, spanning 9.18 acres with 168 plots. One cent of land is offered at ₹9.9 lakh for the first 50 bookings. The project is near Sathyamangalam Road.

Founder and Managing Director Bala Ramajayam said Kovilpalayam’s infrastructure expansion and proximity to IT companies are supporting its emergence as a residential area. Lavender is intended to meet demand for planned villa plots following the sell-out of nearby G Square Neelavanam in 60 days.
