I am residing in Koodal Nagar for the past 20 years, from the past five years rapid growth in business. No other improvement.

  • House rent affordable, vegetable weekly market

  • Mosquito menace no common play ground, no park, no traffic regulation, no traffic signs on the SH

Madurai MP Seeks 12 More Train Stoppages at Koodal Nagar

Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan is seeking 12 additional train stoppages at Koodal Nagar station, alongside road and lighting upgrades planned by December-end.

Key facts

On October 28, 2025, Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan inspected Koodal Nagar railway station with senior railway officials. Only five passenger trains stop there. He will ask the Railway Board for 12 additional stoppages, including for the Pandian Express, Vaigai Express and Tiruchi–Thiruvananthapuram Intercity Express.

The State Highways Department will relay the service road beneath Koodal Nagar road overbridge, and Madurai Corporation will install street lights on the station approach road by December-end. Venkatesan proposed a new approach road connecting the station to Sellur and said Koodal Nagar should become Madurai’s second railway terminal to meet demand over the next two decades.

A meeting with officials will discuss a station master plan and a freight bypass between Sholavandan and Tirumangalam. Diverting goods trains away from Madurai could create capacity for more passenger trains. Representatives of Railar Nagar People’s Welfare Association also sought more stoppages.
