The plan is in its initial stages and follows passenger queries; the service has had a lukewarm response. Its first trip, on August 23, departed from Kolad, Nandgaon Road and Verna with seven passengers, despite an extended registration deadline.
The 10-car Ro-Ro train also has two passenger coaches: one dedicated air-conditioned coach and one second-seating coach. Car transport costs ₹7,875 on the Kolad–Verna route and ₹5,460 on the Kolad–Nandgaon route.
On October 15, Konkan Railway marked its 35th Foundation Day. It sought ₹7,700 crore from the railway ministry, expected by March 2026, for station improvements, expansion of the Mangalore–Madurai route and overall rail-asset improvements. There are no plans to double existing corridors because of mountain ranges and steep curves. No mobile towers are planned inside 91 tunnels; installation would cost ₹5–7 crore per tunnel.
