The dismissal lifted a stay Khan obtained in 2015, and the district administration can begin taking over the properties. The properties, reportedly worth around ₹15,000 crore, extend from Kohefiza to Chiklod and include historic buildings and land linked to the former Bhopal princely state. The government declared Abida Sultan’s sister, Sabia Sultan, heir after Abida moved to Pakistan in 1950; their father, Nawab Hamidullah Khan, died in 1960. A 2016 government ordinance stated heirs had no rights to the family property. Buyers from the Pataudi family fear they could be treated as encroachers if the government takes control.
