The Centre approved a six-lane Jaipur–Kishangarh upgrade and a six-lane elevated corridor in Kagal, with combined project costs of ₹1,268.89 crore.
Key facts
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced approval of two NH-48 projects:
- The 89.785-km Jaipur–Kishangarh stretch, across Jaipur and Ajmer districts in Rajasthan, will be widened to six lanes at an estimated ₹910.90 crore. It will be partly access-controlled, with flyovers, service roads on both sides and improvements to conflict points. Travel time is expected to fall from around two hours to about one hour, while safety and traffic management improve.
- A six-lane elevated corridor in Kagal, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, will cost an estimated ₹357.99 crore. Three-lane concrete service roads on both sides will separate local traffic from highway traffic. The project aims to ease congestion driven by industrial expansion, including the five-star MIDC industrial area, and heavy goods movement.
NH-48 is part of the Golden Quadrilateral, linking Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai.
