• The 14.99-km AIIMS–Karond route has begun commercial operations on the 6.22-km AIIMS–Subhash Nagar section; construction continues on the 8.77-km Subhash Nagar–Karond stretch.
• Relocation of 40 sawmills to Chhota Ratibad remains stalled. Bhopal has 108 sawmills; roads and plots have been developed at the relocation site, and Metro authorities have released ₹5.50 crore for the move.
• At Bada Bagh, land for the proposed underground-corridor exit after Nadra station has not been made available. Muslim groups identify the site as a royal cemetery and oppose excavation 24–30 metres deep over concerns graves could be damaged. Authorities have begun a geological survey.
• The underground project costs ₹22 lakh per day, and completion is proposed for 2028. Collector Priyank Mishra said revenue teams are inspecting the Bada Bagh site and sawmills would be shifted soon.

Electricity supply will be disrupted on Thursday, August 20, due to departmental work:

Supply is expected to be restored after the work is completed.

Bhopal City Link Limited’s (BCLL) bus fleet has declined from around 356 in 2022 to roughly 60. More than 150 buses are reportedly idle in garages, while others are unfit for regular operations. Opposition claims the decline affects nearly 1.5 lakh daily commuters and cites operator disputes, contract issues and administrative problems. Mayor Malti Rai took office on August 6, 2022; the Opposition says the BMC’s annual budgets of around ₹3,500–4,000 crore have not resolved basic-service shortcomings. It questions more than ₹15,000 crore in spending over four years and cites potholes, water-supply and sanitation problems, encroachments and traffic congestion. Housing for All projects remain stalled. Of 85 planned ward hawker corners, around 22–23 were built, with some later encroached upon. Adampur landfill has drawn criticism. Opposition leader Shabista Zaki criticised roads in MP Nagar, New Market, Karond, Arera Hills, Chowk Bazaar and the Old City, and alleged illegal colonies pay taxes without adequate civic amenities. Rai cited a 10-MW solar project in Neemuch, improved cleanliness rankings, CNG garbage vehicles and the new eight-storey BMC headquarters in Tulsi Nagar.

Construction and inconsistent traffic controls have slowed Bhopal’s two main airport routes. On the VIP Road–Kamla Park Polytechnic approach, Bhadbhada–Smart Road link works and a new signal at the Polytechnic rotary have disrupted traffic. The Bhanpur route is narrowed by a new-road project. Construction on Ayodhya Bypass, road widening and Orange Line metro works at Karond junction have reduced capacity. Planners warn that mixing signals and rotaries without coherent design harms traffic flow and safety; Bhopal Haat remains an accident hotspot. Delays risk missed flights, higher taxi and shuttle costs, and slower emergency response.

Separately, metro barricades and diversions closed an NH-84 stretch on Raisen Road, causing jams from ITI intersection to Piplani petrol pump; barricades between Govindpura Industrial Area gate and JK Road narrowed lanes. Traffic police ordered their removal and a notice to metro management. Raisen Road carries 14,500–22,100 PCU, rising to 15,000–25,000 at peak times.

Road widening for a 10-lane project ruptured a gas pipeline near a private hospital on Ayodhya Bypass. Work was suspended as the area was secured and repairs began; residents said sewage infrastructure had also been damaged earlier.

A road in Vinayak Colony, Karond, passes directly beneath a high-tension electricity tower that has stood there for years. Residents walk, ride bikes and drive under the lines, which they say run just above their heads. Mahendra Singh Rajput said homes and families have gradually moved into the formerly empty area, increasing the risk. Bigger vehicles struggle to pass beneath the tower, and residents fear water could carry electric current during the rainy season. They have asked the government and electricity department to inspect the site and shift the tower and line. Electricity company officials said they are trying to relocate it, but despite several discussions, no action has been taken. The issue regained attention after pictures and videos circulated on social media.
