Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Rajya Sabha that the Kanjikode coach factory proposal in Palakkad is no longer under consideration. Responding to CPM MP John Brittas, he said existing manufacturing facilities and sanctioned units can meet future rail demand. The 228 acres acquired for the plant will be redirected to other future Railway requirements.
Vaishnaw also said Kerala has opted against pursuing the SilverLine semi-high-speed rail initiative or the high-speed rail corridor designed by E Sreedharan.
