• Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Kanadia Road on Wednesday.
• The drive targeted illegal street kiosks, temporary tin-shed shops, handcarts, food stalls, chaat vendors and vegetable shops from Holkar Statue to Bypass Road.
• Officials said over 60 shops and stalls were removed; Zone 19 Building Officer Vishal Rathore said action was taken against 60 to 70 establishments.
• IMC teams used heavy machinery, including a JCB, to demolish the structures.
• The operation was aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion near the local vegetable market and adjoining shops.
• The situation turned violent when the team was returning after the operation; a dispute during unloading of a seized handcart escalated into scuffles and a fistfight.
• Witnesses said a disabled child was allegedly pushed during the confrontation.
• Municipal employees reached the police station and sought action against the vendors involved.
• IMC removal squad member Bablu Kalyane said a formal application is being submitted to the police.
• Officials said remaining illegal setups on the stretch are also being cleared, and any new stalls will face similar action.

Residents in eastern Indore continue to oppose the underground metro, demanding that the tunnel run beneath the main road rather than their homes. They say it could endanger houses and buildings.

The route is being changed because the large tunnel-boring machine (TBM) needs a gradual curve and cannot turn abruptly. Underground lines require curves, while elevated routes can change direction according to pillar placement; large vehicles such as trucks and buses also need more turning space than motorcycles and auto-rickshaws.

An elevated metro route was earlier proposed along Kanadia Road. After opposition and elected representatives’ demand for an underground route, the process was revised and the route was changed with their consent. Metro officials have said underground metro routes in India and other cities do not affect buildings above them or cause vibrations.

Property and taxation: Simplified property mutation process through standard operating procedure; property tax accounts to be opened for privately owned properties and plots in illegal colonies with complete ownership documents; no tax on encroachments over government land.

Infrastructure projects: Link road construction from Kanadia Road to Khajrana Temple; international swimming pool at Brahmalin Laxmansingh Gaud Udyan on Ranjit Hanuman Road via PPP model; 60-tonne-per-day coconut waste processing plant at Devguradia via PPP.

Beautification and development: Palasia Square will receive new "Akhand Bharat" themed monument with existing "I Love Indore" installation through CSR participation; vacant space beneath Footi Kothi flyover to be developed as smart hub under PPP; Chandrayaan replica near Rajkumar Bridge platforms 5 and 6 to be completed through CSR.

Markets and commerce: Street food hubs including one at existing hawkers' zone near Annapurna Road pond; new markets at Subhash Nagar and Vallabh Nagar.

Traffic management: Installation of traffic signals at intersections through PPP arrangements based on advertising rights; 70 new gantries with 10-year advertising rights via online tender.
