Nakta Villagers Protest Eviction from Land Earmarked for Housing

thehindu · · Regulatory

Residents of Nakta, near Raipur, are protesting an eviction order covering 77 or 85 families on land reportedly earmarked for a Housing Board project and MLA colony.

Key facts

Residents of Nakta village, about 15 km from Raipur, have protested for ten days against an April 17 Tehsildar Court order directing 77 families, or 85 according to the order, to vacate homes deemed unauthorised. The May 28 deadline has passed. The 15-hectare parcel is less than 5 km from Raipur airport and near Nava Raipur’s developing administrative hub; it is reportedly earmarked for the State Housing Board and a proposed MLA residential colony.

Government records classify the land, Khasra No. 460, as government-owned. Revenue records describe it as Shamlat Charagan communal grazing land and list individual names as owners. Villagers cite a gram sabha resolution opposing transfer and say families have lived there for decades. Some homes were built last year under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Grameen); authorities say allotments of more than 25 such houses will be investigated.

Collector Gaurav Singh said residents occupy government land and had received notices over two years; they can approach the SDM court. An official said the site might be needed for an upcoming project.
