Maharashtra’s Cabinet approved the New Nagpur project in Hingna taluka. NMRDA will oversee development, with NBCC (India) as consultant. The project covers 692.06 hectares in Mouza Godhni (Rithi) and Mouza Ladgaon (Rithi); ₹3,000 crore is allocated for land acquisition and ₹3,500 crore for Phase I, funded by a HUDCO loan. Two MoUs with NBCC and HUDCO cover 1,000 acres within the 1,710 acres designated for New Nagpur. The project is planned in three phases over 15 years, with ₹11,300 crore in HUDCO support, and aims to create more than five lakh jobs. It includes an International Business and Finance Centre, underground utility tunnels, smart utilities, green planning and single-window clearances.

The wider plan describes a 1,780-acre Central Commercial District in Hingna. MIHAN includes IT parks, manufacturing and residential areas. Connectivity projects include the ₹13,748-crore Outer Ring Road, Nagpur Metro Phase II and Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway. Tax incentives are intended to attract firms; TCS and HCL have established operations.

A review meeting was held at the MIA building in Hingna following a meeting with Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) CEO Dipendra Singh Kushwah. MIDC officials present were superintendent engineer V. V. Rathod, executive engineer S. S. Patil, deputy engineers S. C. Gaur and N. S. Nikhare, and junior engineer P. Kasare. MIA was represented by president P. Mohan and vice-presidents Ganesh Jaiswal and Ajay Agrawal.

MIA sought permanent, time-bound improvements to internal roads, drainage and street lighting to address monsoon waterlogging; regular anti-encroachment drives with Nagpur Police; and dedicated truck parking. It also requested a comprehensive sewerage system in Dingna, an ESIC hospital and medical facility, and action under rules on vacant or closed plots to make land available for industrial expansion. MIA sought clear, uniform MIDC guidelines on local-body taxes on MIDC properties and GST on land transfers and leasing. Mohan proposed an MIDC-MIA monitoring mechanism with a responsible officer, deadlines and periodic reviews.

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will acquire an additional 5,500 acres in Nagpur district for industrial projects with signed MoUs, CEO Dipendra Singh Kushwah said during a visit to Vidarbha. The headline gives the proposed acquisition as 5,550 acres.

With Hingna and Butibori industrial areas nearly fully occupied, MIDC is focusing on industrial zones at Narkhed, Katol, Saoner and Kuhi. It is also accelerating industrial development in Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur.

Confederation of Small Industries Association president Julfesh Shah said the acquisition would be a priority. Additional Butibori is sold out, and JSW and Mahindra & Mahindra are among large companies awaiting land. The Chief Minister’s Office has instructed MIDC to complete the process in six to eight months.

Maharashtra has reclaimed 39 industrial plots—nine in Hingna and 30 in Butibori—after their allottees failed to establish industries. The plots are available to investors through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s Milaap portal, Industries Minister Uday Samant told the Legislative Council.

Hingna and Butibori have 153 non-operational industrial units occupying nearly 270 acres. Across Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara and Gondia districts, 301 allotted plots remain under closed units because of financial distress, legal disputes and other operational issues.

MIDC has issued notices directing the units to resume operations. If they do not restart production within the stipulated period, MIDC will reclaim the land under its resumption policy. Allotted plots cannot be sold; transfers and leases require prior MIDC approval and must meet its prescribed norms.

Nagpur Metro Phase 2 will add 43.8 km of track and 32 stations, taking the network to about 82 km. A ₹154 crore tender has been issued for an open-loop Automatic Fare Collection system accepting bank cards and universal mobility cards; stations are planned to be green.

The four extensions are Automotive Square–Kanhan River (13 km), Khapri–Butibori (18.7 km), Lokmanya Nagar–Hingna (6.7 km) and Prajapati Nagar–Transport Nagar (5.5 km). Soil testing and geotechnical surveys are complete on most reaches; piers are standing on the North-South corridor toward Kanhan, depot land is being cleared in the east, and land in MIHAN has been handed over.

Construction accelerated in 2023. Viaduct work was scheduled for 2024–25; track laying, station construction and AFC installation are planned for 2026. Full operations are targeted for December 2027, with some sections potentially opening earlier for trial runs.
